Tonight I hit a big milestone… 100 paid subscribers!
Free subscribers are also growing steadily, here is the past 90 days:
This is surreal. Thank you.
What is my next goal?
I hate to make this all about the money, since the point of starting writing on Substack was to learn how to write and to have a creative outlet. But now that making a living is actually a plausible outcome, I have decided to dedicate myself to that.
1,000 paid Substack subscribers is equivalent to slightly less than $100,000 salary.
So, at some point between 100 subscribers and 1,000 subscribers, I will reach the tipping point where I am able to sustain myself as an adult purely from poasting, which is very cool.
Continued growth is a foregone conclusion if I just keep grinding away. Heck, Ben Shapiro or someone could retweet me tomorrow and I would double my subscribers overnight. The way I look at Substack is that every article is a lottery ticket. When you built content and put it out there in the world, you never know how the world will react. The more lottery tickets you buy, the greater chance you have at going viral and winning the lottery.
To celebrate this milestone, I am giving away a 60-day free trial, it would mean a lot to me if you became the 101st subscriber:
My theory is that if you come onboard as a free-trial subscriber for 2 months, you will probably stay as a paid subscriber for the next 2 years.
I could have offered a price discount (e.g. 20% off membership) but decided since $5 monthly membership is already the lowest option Substack will let me offer, price discrimination wouldn’t be very effective. Also, I don’t think it would be fair to old subscribers to make them pay more than new subscribers. If you live in the 3rd world, please email me (chrisbrunet@protonmail.com) and I will give you a massive discount.
It might not even be fair to old subscribers to give away 60 days of free membership to new subscribers. I thought about this too. If you are a old paid subscriber and this injustice upsets you, you can 1) unsubscribe 2) while unsubscribed, click the 60 day free coupon, and you will have the 60-day free trial applied to your membership… I think?
Thanks! Looking forward to the future.
If you have any advice on how to accelerate growth, please leave a comment. I am terrible at marketing/growth so I am always trying to learn and improve.
We're all gonna make it brah, congrats!
You're netting about $300/month after 1 1/2 years of continuous effort.
In view of how unremarkable an accomplishment this is, your backflips in celebration and histrionic self-congratulations are a little unhinged, yes?
