So three based physics profs, two who prefer to give you a “value-neutral” observation of what is driving this in order to CYA, and three idiotic bootlickers. WTF “sensible and wise policy”?! Typical unthinking Canadian squish. How embarrassing for xer. Also that 3:5 ratio of based to idiots or cowards does not spell good things for the Canadian academy in the future. I wound say thank God I got out of Canada, except that I landed in a state that is just as bad.
Frustrating to see the pervasive entrenchment of such illogical and poisonous ideology across almost all institutions of society. It might be a slow march, but the conclusions reached down this road or the pendulum swing back before reaching the end, both scare me. Articles like this can be depressing, but then I remember how feckless and unimpressive the lead proponents of woke progressive totalitarianism are and that most of the mindless NPCs will just fall in line once the tide eventually changes.
Incredible how many of the woke anonymous comments presuppose the notion of "equitable representation" were morally or technically accurate. They just cannot seem to fathom the possibility that different groups of people may have evolved different strengths & weaknesses, and that - wew lads - this can manifest in their professional choices and achievements.
This possibility - well, fact - must be unabashedly stated.
I'm confused about what your actual concern is. You don't seem to be generally concerned about human rights or equality in your posts. You seem to be very focused on white men, so it seems disingenuous to pretend like you are a defender of human rights and freedom (or whatever it is your pretending) when you're only concerned about the "suffering" of one race. I mean, obviously black people are discriminated against the US, at levels way higher than any very limited job postings for highly specialized academic jobs (you even say you can't find any other). If you're a champion for rights and freedom, shouldn't you be helping document wide-spread discrimination, big problems. It's clear to me that you're just a "shit-stirrer". Also, I noticed the tagline for your blog is "opinionated investigative journalism"; isn't that an oxymoron?! Aren't you shooting yourself in the foot before anyone even reads your shitty blog?
The prof who noted that the universities' hands are being forced by the federal government is, I believe, accurate. National Research Chairs are indeed subject to DIE, and the feds have said that universities that don't achieve compliance become ineligible for NRC funding.
None of which is to say that the academy isn't packed with fellow travelers who enthusiastically collaborate with the DIE agenda. As indeed is amply demonstrated by the preponderance of physics professors who responded to you with strong support for this job ad.
BTW, this isn't the only job posting like this I've seen. Last year the University of Toronto advertised a physics professor position that was only open to black people.
Some updates: 1. Waterloo joining in 2. some new phrasing to also allow things like gender-fluid.
Also, with specific regard to these Canada Research Chair (CRC) positions:
"In 2017, the Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secretariat, which administers the Canada Research Chair program, adopted diversity requirements because the positions weren’t especially diverse.
By December 2029, women and gender minorities must make up 50.9 per cent of all Canada Research Chairs across the entire program. Twenty-two per cent must be visible minorities; 7.5 per cent must be people with disabilities and 4.9 per cent must be Indigenous."
"There are other ways of working towards this goal: an open competition in which preference is given to the many equally well-qualified candidates from these groups; increased funding and educational support at all levels of education for the socially disadvantaged;"
The legal system is a fraud with inconsistent laws, allowing lawyers to confuse people and keep each other in business. All legal systems need to be rewritten from the top down to be logically consistent.
The Native population saw that they could take up the mantle of oppression by becoming the stand-in for former slaves. I would say it has worked out quite well for them.

I don't know what I could add
