The opening grabs you and the writing is vivid. I'm not sure such large extrapolations can be made from such limited experience. But I am more interested in reading Hunter S. Thompson's Rum Diary now, having enjoyed reading accounts of Mexican sojourns by and about other literary luminaries such as William S. Burroughs and Malcolm Lowry.
