Don't worry, when the position is eventually filled it WILL be by a woman.

This kind of job posting that you deem 'illegal', is totally 'legal' in Canada. Distressingly.

I find it strangely sad that she signs her email

-- Rae M Robertson-Anderson | she/her/hers

instead of

Dr. Rae Robertson-Anderson, Ph.D.

Her virtue signaling is more important than her credentials.

Problem is, regardless what the letter of the law says, this kind of employment discrimination de facto IS legal. The court apparatus wills it so.

“Transparency, that’s the missing ingredient here. This small story highlights the critical role of investigative journalism in exposing and holding accountable those who engage in such deceptive practices.”

Ah! My Alma mater. In our MBA program 12 years ago, we were required to do corporate social responsibility, which was ESG-light. I thought it was good at the time to challenge what the purpose of corporations were. We did debate why there weren’t more women on boards and most of us agreed that it would be beneficial to encourage more women to join and/or get selected to join boards. I can’t say I’m too surprised with the job posting, except for the fact they might be violating civil rights here.

So isn't the root culprit Prebys Foundation? It is they who made the requirement for a woman (according to the prof). And--also according to the prof--it seems that she CAN hire a man, but he would not get the income supplement from Prebys. This would result in differential pay for the same work, which seems contrary to legislation. So maybe the prof posted the job as for a woman to avoid this situation...? (ps good effort in making that direct contact with the prof, which got answers/results)

I wonder whether her research is original or another case of plagiarism?

They are so comfortable doing things that are wrong, they sometimes forget to censor themselves.

Also, there is no possible way they are not still going to remove candidates who are male, even if they do apply. They'll just to it in secret, with no email trails in case of litigation.

Kind of tangential from the main point of the post, but I find it interesting how women are trying to level out the last few fields in university that are male dominated. They now have something like 90%+ of all spots in teaching/education, speech & language pathology, etc. They are 56%+ of med and law students. The last remaining male fields are in engineering and natural science: EE, CS, Physics, ChemEng, etc.

At the same time women are complaining that they cannot find university educated males to date. It's beyond laughable. Chase out the males, then complain that guys aren't educated enough.

Good!!! Woman with Physics B.S. here. Had I gone on for the Ph.D., I would not have wanted to be thought of as having been given preferential treatment. The men shut one out if that is the case, and have contempt for one.

The coolest Physics thing I was part of was Penn State Wednesday meets at a bar, talking with Ben Owens about work on LIGO. I knew Thorne would get his Nobel from that. These bar meets and whitewater rafting are where the connections are made.

We have to earn respect, not be treated with the contempt of low expectations and false preference.

A toast to Margaret Kivelson, the real thing.

And this is why my son who is finishing his PhD in Biomedical Engineering in Switzerland has decided there’s no point in returning to Canada.
